epicEIGHTEEN: Group Stage Preview

by Archive

Day one of the prestigious UK CS:GO tournament is minutes away from kicking off here at the Kettering Conference Centre, and the tournament admins have spared no time in releasing the groups ahead of the scheduled tournament start.

We’ve seen, as expected, that Rasta have taken the first seed after having numerous successes at the epic LAN events, albeit with different teams each time. Though, that being said, the players that make up this iteration have all seen their fair share of epic LAN glory. Their partner seed for the groups is Perilous Fury, another team littered with players that are no stranger to a UK CS event. They’re a potential heavy hitter and with players like Nick “ZEO” Jugjeewon in the fray, they will probably give Rasta a good run for their money. Finally four Group A, a spanner in the works could be the wildcard Danes, who’ve joined forces with Jack “Jacky” Peters with hopes of success.

Group B plays host to the tournament’s second seed, Team Infused. They have long time CS:GO in game leader James “redSNK” Littlewood at the helm, a player who has lead various combinations of line-ups to relative success. The low seed for this group comes in the form of Playhackz, propped up by players such as Dudley “dUdley” Morris who will be hoping to pull this team through into the elimination bracket. There are little further players of note in this group, except perhaps a few playing under the Devine eSports banner.

The third group comes with another clear favourite identified as the tournament’s third seed. Molotov and Marshmallows, fully equipped with arguably the country’s best AWP player Luke “fearLess” Morris, should not see any difficulty passing their way through this group. Even the low seed in this group excel eSports shouldn’t pose much of a threat, and may struggle themselves to secure themselves a second place finish. Again, very little to mention in the way of other teams for this group, despite the presence of a UK CSGO fan favourite Anthony “neggies” English.

The final group looks as if it could be an exciting one, with the two seeded teams both being potential causes of upset. With Adam “adamxoxo” Rotheram’s uFrag team looking to start climbing back to previous heights, and the newly signed VATIC team on the hunt for a successful first event, this should represent an epic clash. It remains to be seen how either of these teams are going to perform, and it is certainly not a given who will come out on top.

That concludes the short group round-up, and the first round of games are due to start in the coming moments.
