Preview: CEVO Gfinity Season 9 LAN Finals

by Archive

After a long period where no Counter-Strike action was taking place at the Gfinity Arena in Fulham, the CEVO Season 9 LAN Finals are set to be played in the former cinema. The venue has received a recent facelift, which was most recently seen when the company organised a Halo tournament. This has increased the size of the stage and allowed for a better viewing atmosphere than before – so it looks slightly less like a cinema.

This time, the CEVO Season 9 Pro League Finals are being held at the good looking Gfinity Arena in Fulham Broadway. This tournament marks the first time CEVO have left their home in North America to provide a LAN event for their Pro League. At the moment four of the eight teams are confirmed for the $125,000 tournament, with the remaining four being set to be filled out in the remaining qualifiers. The teams are currently:

  • Virtus.Pro (CEVO Pro League Season 8 Champions)
  • Na`Vi (Invited)
  • Optic Gaming (Winner of NA Qualifier #1)
  • Team dignitas (Winner of EU Qualifier #1)

As of yet there are no UK teams qualified for the tournament – however NerdRage are still in the current qualifier and are set to face against the Swedes of Epsilon in their first game, as well as compLexity, featuring UK players Rory “dephh” Jackson and Kia “Surreal” Man, in their North American qualifier against Splyce at 1am tomorrow morning.

The tournament is set up to take place over four days, running from Thursday 28th April to the Sunday 1st May. The Group Stages are set to be taking place over the Thursday and Friday, which free up the weekend to be filled with the excitement of the Semi-Finals and Grand Final.

We at UKCSGO will be sending a team to be in attendance so we can bring you live updates from the event. Tickets, and more information on the event, are available from the Gfinity website, with weekend tickets at £50 and day tickets for £15 (apart from the Grand Final on Sunday which is £20).
