UKCSGO March Top 5

by Archive

After much critique and time for reflection, the UKCSGO Top Ten is this month being revised into a new format. The way in which the voting system works has been changed, such that teams that attend events and achieve high placing finishes are rewarded and those that do not attend are not otherwise affected negatively. The new system also recognises teams that advance far beyond expectations.

A prominent issue with the old system meant that mix teams that entered events or one off tournaments were often featured in the top ten, sometimes leading to players appearing twice – both in their own line-up and the mix. The new system limits this such that mixes will not be counted unless they contain 3/5 of an existing team for the period of the ranking, and the allocated ranking will be given to the team and not the mix.

The final change we’re making is to reduce the number of spots to just five. This is for a number of reasons, and will allow us to produce a more accurate ranking and make a placing even more coveted. This also means that the list will probably change an awful lot more and hence there will be a lot more bragging rights associated with making it into the list.

With that in mind, we can now release the UKCSGO Top 5 for March:

# Team Name April Roster Points
1.  Infused  Whindanski, Surreal, neilziniho, s0m, mole ¹ ²  44
2.  fm eSports  Immi, Puls3, CRUC1AL, Esio, MightyMax¹  22
3.  Molotovs and Marshmallows  EB, maxyB, chron1c, fearLess, BeRTY  20
4.  NerdRage  redsnK, Shaney, Lumji, Roma, Dream ¹  12
5.  Ionic.gg  AJAY, Snodz, Solid, Talidan, Danceyz 1  6

¹ This roster has changed since the period for which this ranking has been produced.
² This team attended i57 as a mix containg 3 out of 5 of the team’s active roster, and hence has been ranked as the team.

UKCSGO Owner Adam Heath gave the following comments:

WOAH! A reformed way of doing the top 10…How exciting! Reducing the list to Top 5, teams only and taking into account more than just personal opinion is a great step forward. We chose the right month to start this on as well with i57 taking place highlighting some great skill from some new kids on the block. It is great to see some breakthrough teams straight off the bat and look forward to see how they progress throughout the year.

For obvious reasons, the recent Multiplay event has been the guiding light for this month’s rankings, with little else in the way of high profile UK events taking place online for the month of March. The ranking certainly shows a shift from what we have been accustomed to in the last few months, with notable names like nerdRage falling from grace and the appearance of a team unbeknownst to most of the scene Ionic.gg creeping in at fifth place, though it cannot be told if they will stay there or if this is simply a one off. Notable exceptions include the Perilous.CSGOSPHERE side that finished in the top 6 at the most recent iSeries event, three of which have since gone on to form a new line-up with Sam “RattlesnK” Gawn. As the team was not in existence at the time of the event, it has been deemed that they do not qualify for the UKCSGO Top 5.

Since April, 3 of the top 5 teams have made roster changes. The Infused roster has split into two sides, neither of which have stayed with the Infused organisation. FM eSports have also lost their CS:GO team, with three of five now playing under AlterYourEgo, one joining up with the former Infused coach and the final one to appear in a new roster at some point soon. Finally, the nerdRage side have parted ways with Shane “shaneyyy” Smith and have taken up the Infused banner. So needless to say, whilst some of the names might stay the same, the UKCSGO Top 5 for May is probably going to look rather different.

Tournaments that will be carrying some big weighting for April will be the ESL UK Premiership qualifiers that took place in the first few weeks of the month, and have already seen some different names creep up into qualification. With no physical LAN events for the month, there are some debates to be had on who deserves to be where.
