After the recent roster turbulence, ANTARCTICA has disbanded with individuals going their separate ways.
ANTARCTICA started the season off strong. Dominating both UKIC Season 5 Division 1 and ESEA Main with red hot form. This was a positive surprise considering they changed their IGL and the founder of the project Lorenzo “LTH” Venanzi for Ehren “Ehgren” Osborne the day before UKIC started. Nonetheless, with an 8-1 standing in ESEA Main and a 5-1 record in UKIC Division 1 ANTARCTICA looked like they were going to have a very impressive season.
This all changed after EPIC.LAN 44. Going into the LAN ANTARCTICA had high hopes to at minimum make the HLTV stage, but a close loss to 8Sins in the Upper Bracket semis took the momentum out of their sails. They then suffered back-to-back defeats as dark horses Ctrl Alt Defeat eased past them, knocking them out in 5th-6th place. After coming tantalisingly close, the fallout has now resulted in the team disbanding.
The immediate reaction to this performance was Joe “joeski” Holmes mutually departing from the team before the season had even finished. Interestingly enough seven days later ANTARCTICA decided to continue with joeski next season. During this period UKCSGO understands the team were in talks with UK organisations such as The Last Resort for next season.
However, this harmony only lasted for three days. Due to personalities clashing ANTARCTICA has fully disbanded with everyone going their separate ways.
After the teams disbanding they did have one last dance in the playoffs of UKIC Season 5 Divison 1 against 8Sins. Unfortunately, they did not see a “dead team bounce” as the EPIC.LAN 44 finalists trounced them 2-0.
After such a promising start from one of the two full time teams in the UK scene, it is disappointing to see how this project ended. ANTARCTICA still hold an ESEA Main and UKIC Division 1 spot which they will mix for next season.
