The first game of the second day at the CEVO Gfinity kicked off between OpTic Gaming and Splyce, in the lower bracket of their group. As the vetoes came in, the map picks were Mirage (Splyce), Train (OpTic), Cobblestone (Decider).
The first map kicked off in exceptional fashion for ‘The Green Wall’, as they managed to pick up the first six rounds in quick succession, but kept their dominance throughout the first half as well, where they only dropped three rounds throughout the whole half, as they were supported by the performances from Rush and NAF. The second half continued in the same vein, as they closed it out exceptionally quickly, winning 16-3. A huge shock to the system for Splyce as they lose their map pick – something had to change, and had to change quick.
Coming into Train, with everyone expecting OpTic to take the game in a similar fashion to the one that came before. Splyce, however, said no as they came swinging into the first three rounds of the map. OpTic answered back with their three, but apart from one round later in that half that was their share of the CT side on Train, as Splyce headed into the half 11-4 in advantage. With aBE and arya showing up to provide a sting in the tail for the side, but the momentum from that first half didn’t carry over as the map appears to show a certain T-side advantage in this matchup. OpTic managed to bring it close to 12-13, edging to taking themselves closer to taking it but Splyce lifted their heads to prevent such an action and take the map 16-13.
As we moved into Cobble, no-one truly knew what the potential result was going to be. But OpTic showed us the result they wanted it to be – as daps helped his side take nine of the first eleven rounds, but afterwards allowed Splyce to head into the half at a slight disadvantage, taking those in Green to a 9-6 half. The second half looked like Splyce might return as they took the pistol, but OpTic shut them down. The game ended as Optic were only seen dropping one more round as the game ended 16-8 and 2-1 in favour of OpTic. This sends Splyce home and OpTic to face off against the loser of Virtus.Pro and HellRaisers.
We shall be continuing updates from Gfinity this weekend as the tournament ends the group stage – keep an eye on us here at UKCSGO.
