EPIC.LAN 42 is in full swing, and despite the weather in Kettering reaching 30°C with clear blue skies acting as a temptation for people to head out onto the lake. This Friday has seen nothing but games, games, games in a moderately warm hall at the Kettering Leisure Village. With all said and done, 30 teams signed up for the tournament this summer, the highest attendance numbers for a summer EPIC.LAN post-COVID.
A number of upsets occurred this event, the most notable coming in Group C as Girl Scouts leaped ahead of their seed to finish second in their group. 123PEEKNICE fell to three 13-11 losses in a row against the higher seeded teams in Group A and Annex Esports picked up a key draw against TLR and hedgehogpeek, teams that finished first and third, so they could slot into second place of Group D. The format, to remind those of you unaware, is roughly similar to previous LAN events. The event starts with four groups, two with eight teams and two with seven. Groups are a classic best-of-one round robin, and those games held only a single round of overtime if necessary. For teams that go to overtime, there’s a Draw column in the tables below if the matches went that way, and for a OT Win/Loss those matches will be indicated in brackets.
The top four teams from each group will head to the playoffs, with the top two heading to the upper bracket and the following two teams going to the lower bracket. First playoff rounds will kick off tonight, at 7pm Friday, so keep an eye out to follow that action.
