The second major of 2018 has just been announced with FACEIT hosting the event in London. This is the 13th major and the first one being hosted by FACEIT, it will feature a $1,000,000 prize pool and will run from the 20-23 of September in the SSE Arena, Wembley.
FACEIT have previously hosted the ECS finals at the SSE Arena, Wembley back in 2017, where SK Gaming won and more recently just held the season 4 finals in Cancun, Mexico where we saw FaZe Clan picking up the trophy. FACEIT become the sixth company to host a CS:GO major with Valve, other hosts include; DreamHack, ESL, MLG, ELEAGUE, and PGL. This is also the first major to be held in the UK after previously visiting various countries from both Europe and America. The major will be the second CS:GO event of the year to be hosted at the SSE Arena in Wembley, with FACEIT hosting the ECS Season 5 Finals from the 8-10th of June.
FACEITÂ have the unique capability to host the major from start to finish using their own competitive platform and will run all online qualifiers for all regions on their platform ensuring that every team has an opportunity to participate, encouraging the growth of esports around the world and bringing an extra level of excitement to the Major this September.
FACEIT is also going to reveal more information about the major and the local activities that it will support so that fans around the world can gather and enjoy the Major. Viewers will also be able to tune in to FACEIT’s broadcasts to watch all of the matches, with new dedicated features which will improve their experience. With the previous Major breaking a record for the most concurrent viewers of an English-language esports tournament stream with 1.13 million fans tuning into the final match, I’m sure FACEIT are hoping to break that record again and will make sure the Major will be one to remember.
The Major will continue to have 24 participating teams, after the changes Valve made before the ELEAGUE Boston Major. 16 teams have already secured their place in the next major after their run at the ELEAGUE Boston Major, while the remaining eight teams will have to qualify from the Minors that will be hosted in different regions.
