Juve benches himself on Into The Breach

The Portuguese coach drops back after a disappointing IEM Cologne outing

by Michael Moriarty

Into The Breach have announced that coach Gustavo “Juve” Alexandre has moved from his position as Coach and placed himself on the bench. This is the latest in a string of moves for the UK-based organisation, and comes after their last place elimination in the Play-in stage at IEM Cologne 2023.

Juve has been part of ITB on and off since December 2021, starting with the Adam “Adam9130” Ahmad-led iteration of the team. Along with Cai “CYPHER” Watson, he was a mainstay on Adam9130‘s teams despite other roster changes and remained with the organisation as they transitioned to the more familiar core headed up by Thomas “Thomas” Utting. It was that latest roster that brought home a 5-8th place from the BLAST.tv Paris Major in May, and lifted the ESL Premiership Spring 2023 title at the start of June.

In the statement in the above tweet, Juve states that he took the decision to bench himself just before IEM Cologne. ITB also stated that an announcement on Juve‘s replacement, alongside a new analyst, will be made shortly.

Into the Breach have been forced into a number of changes on their team since Paris. After Sebastian “volt” Maloș left for GamerLegion, and CYPHER went to a rumoured TSM lineup that may now be in crisis, the organisation departed from their UK core. First added was Adam “NEOFRAG” Zouhar, previously of SINNERS and more recently OG, and former MOUZ rifler Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras. Irish Counter Strike veteran Neil “NeiL_M” Murphy also joined as Team Manager at the start of June.

The news is released shortly before ITB are set to take to the server in the first round of the CCT 2023 Online Finals bracket, facing the Balkan Zero Tenacity roster. That, and the upcoming Thunderpick World Championship Europe Series playoffs, are their currently scheduled upcoming online competitions.

Into The Breach’s roster is now as follows:

Thomas “Thomas” Utting
Karol “rallen” Rodowicz
Joey “CRUC1AL” Steusel
Adam “NEOFRAG” Zouhar
Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras

Neil “NeiL_M” Murphy (Team Manager)

Gustavo “Juve” Alexandre (Inactive coach)
