Gamerfest is the biggest Gaming Festival in Ireland, over the last year they have run two events in Dublin featuring games like VALORANT and Rocket League. But for the first time, Counter-Strike will feature in the halls of the RDS.
The finals, which will be played on Saturday 21st October, will be the first Irish LAN to have CS2. The qualification process was a double-elimination bracket, with each team having to consist of 3 players residing in either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.
When we take a look at the teams that had signed up, there were two clear favourites; Spiceboys, which feature the Verdant Irish trio, came in as the definitive favourites… even though coach Ciaran “biscu” King was going to have to play on the server. The second clear favourite was boneheads featuring Connor “conoR” McCool and Adam “AdamJC” Colwell. A lot of the newer names in UK/IRE Counter-Strike might not be familiar with conoR, however, he comes with an insane amount of experience. Boasting many high-ranking LAN placements over the years, and even an international performance at the V4 Future Festival in 2019 where he dropped a 1.35 HLTV rating versus MOUZ, he may have felt he could have led his team to at least the LAN stage. However, fortune was now in their favour.
Spiceboys sailed through the LAN stage with a clean run through the upper bracket, eventually beating boneheads 13-3 in the upper finals. Most people assumed boneheads would get the second spot easily… Virginitis had other plans. A team of largely unknown players upset boneheads 13-10 granting them the second spot on LAN.
Spiceboys and Virginitis will be battling out at 1 pm BST on the Gamerfest stage today for the €750 prize pool.
With that in mind, the stage is set for the first CS2 LAN in Ireland at GamerFest this weekend with the broadcast seeing two upcoming casters take the mic. Alongside them, we have new faces to Counter-Strike in Dylan “Whippet” Maguire and Darren “Gibson” Gibson who will be stage hosting. If you follow Rainbow Six then you will be familiar with them, since they have commentated two S-tier events alongside a host of other big tournaments.
