Despite a recent retirement, Kyle “swaggy” Wilson is set to return to the server this weekend for the first ESL Premiership Closed Qualifier. GEEKZ ENERGY return from their relegation, receiving a reprieve as the next highest rated team after ITB withdrew from the upcoming ESL Premiership.
This is despite GEEKZ ENERGY disbanding at the end of the last ESL Premiership season. The return of the name, instead of a more expected one like ROYALS, is due to ESL rules regarding the ownership of Premiership slots. To also fulfil the roster rules, one player will be returning from the prior roster with swaggy, Romanian Ersin “ERSIN” Chiriac. ERSIN had been a substitute for the team last season. Former team manager Andy “Mythix” Shek will also be returning, in a coaching role to fulfil “vibes” requirements.
Assuming the team don’t qualify through the Closed Qualifiers, and enter the Open Qualifier bracket, ERSIN will be replaced by Irish returnee Conor “conoR” McCool. conoR had previously retired from CS:GO to compete in VALORANT, however had been seen competing for Team Ireland trying to qualify for the IESF World Esports Championship in June of this year.
Joining up with the team will be Oskar “oskvr” Myszka, fresh off an EPIC.39 appearance with ROYALS. Prior to EPIC.39, oskvr had played a handful of matches in ESEA Main for OblivionXC and had reached a fourth place finish at Insomnia69 at the end of last year.
Frenchman Jérémy “jeyn” Nguyen also returns to a Swaggy line-up, having previously been a part of ROYALS and Chetz in both 2021 and 2022. More recently, he had a stint on French team GenOne, alongside former Envy player Christophe “SIXER” Xia. Rounding out the roster will be former CeX star James “JamesBT” Beattie. JamesBT hasn’t taken to the server competitively since 2022, playing for “CeX Retirement Home” in Season 41 of ESEA Open.
Speaking to swaggy, he told us the following:
Just playing to have some fun, roster is built with players mostly working full time (and ERSIN), with Oskar, James and Jeremy being really good friends of mine.Playing under GEEKZ is entirely for roster fulfilling purposes, otherwise you’d see a return of Royals. You’ll see us playing the open qualifier with Conor instead of ERSIN under Royals, assuming we don’t qualify [laughs]. Along with other events such as UKIC and ESEA main. Up The Royals.
