The second day of the UK County Championships saw Group B commence, eventually seeing a further four teams qualify for the County Championship finals along side those that advanced from Group A. The second bracket kicked off with a much better turn out, with all but two counties fielding a team seeing a total of 13 teams show up for the event.
Many expected to see the battle of Glasgow vs the rest of Scotland in the second round of the tournament, with the Glaswegian team getting straight through to round two as the top seed and the rest of Scotland facing off against Devon. After an unexpected turn of events and a lengthy comeback, the Devon side actually managed to topple JsP’s Scotland to face Glasgow in round two. Despite an uncharacteristic surge in skill from Tom “Gumpster” Gumbleton in the second map, Glasgow eventually took the best of three series with two clear maps.
On the other side of the bracket, team Wales featured a vast majority of the Choke Gaming roster and was head up by former CAZ awper Tom “SPUdZ” White. After a crushing 16 – 1 victory over Oxfordshire, they found themselves in the second round against the Lancashire line-up. Despite their efforts, Lancashire were unable to match up the star studded Welsh roster and found themselves on the receiving end of a 2 – 0 loss.
Surrey was another stacked county, with a number of talented players following alongside team captain Jake “jakem” McCausland. They found themselves up against Shrewsbury in round two, who actually lost in round one but took the default win after Kent failed to field a roster for the second round. The Surrey side dispatched of them with relative ease, securing themselves a spot in the final. The final qualifying county came in the form of Berkshire, who defeated a battle scarred Buckinghamshire who advanced from round one after a grueling overtime match against North Yorkshire.
The counties that qualified from Group B are as follows:
Scotland – Glasgow
Berkshire
Surrey
Wales
