EPIC.LAN 42 is over, and from the 30 teams entered just one came out victorious on Sunday afternoon to lift the glorious trophy in the upstairs halls of the fabled Kettering Leisure Village. With 30 teams, the final prize pool ended up as £3,500, with £1,750 heading to the winner.
The Grand Final teams were set early on Sunday morning, after Invictum swept through international fan favourites GET BDOG’D in two maps. Nuke came and went about as fast as it started, with Invictum running through with thirteen rounds won in a row after GET BDOG’D opened the showing with the opening two. A 13-2 victory was followed by a closer 13-8 win on Ancient, but Invictum’s strong T-side (10-2 half time) proved too high a hurdle to overcome in the second half despite a number of solid rounds and a top performance from Reegan “ReegaN” Ward and co. saw them fall out.
The end of the road for GET BDOG’D came on Sunday morning
This result set up a rematch of the Upper Bracket Final from last night, a match that Verdant came out 2-0 winners with back-to-back 13-8 map wins. With Invictum warmed up with their morning match, would they be able to come out firing and bring more of a challenge to a Verdant team widely picked as tournament favourites.
The first map set the tone, and it was a dominant tone from Verdant. In every point of Mirage, the favourites were in control. Invictum’s William “wfn” Maskrey was a point of positivity for the underdog roster, but they were only able to pull out occasional single round wins as Verdant romped to a 13-3 victory to open the final.
Nuke came in closer, with Invictum taking the fight to Verdant on their CT side, but they were unable to take the advantage going into half time with the two teams neck and neck at 6-6. From there, Verdant rolled on their CT side and took round after round after round after the pistol round, edging closer and closer to the EPIC.LAN 42 trophy with each kill. Invictum were unable to stop the charge of the Anglo-Irish roster, and Nuke closed in as a 13-6 win and 2-0 overall. Remi “Diviiii” Alexandre was selected as MVP for his stellar performances throughout the tournament, as well as the winning role in the final.
