Team 7AM are among the favourites to win EPIC40, especially after they took down Next in Line Esports with an emphatic 16-3 final map of Nuke. Their young star rifler Zy “yz0” Esponilla has been with them since the lineup formed last year as SPADE, and integral to their success in that time.
After their daring win to put 7AM into the Upper Bracket Final, Tom “tomtom94” Coles sat down with yz0 to discuss who he thinks he will face in the Final.
Did you enjoy beating Next in Line?
It feels good, because I heard some stuff around saying they’re the better team, but I guess we showed up today and proved them wrong!
Was that last map a statement win?
Yeah, I mean, coming into the three maps, when we won the first map we knew we were the better team. Especially when we lost Ancient, we had a few mis-plays, so that cost us the map. In the end, we were still confident that we were the better team, and we closed out Nuke.
Have you been enjoying EPIC so far?
It’s different, because it’s a different place, a bit rough to navigate sometimes, but it’s been pretty good. Admins are nice, apart from a few tech issues at the start, but it’s running smoothly now so everything’s fun. This is our first EPIC.LAN with 7AM, so that’s good.
How is LVN as an in-game leader?
He’s good, obviously he has a lot of thought process to his calls, so he’s a smart player and I respect him as an IGL. Sometimes he baits his own team-mates, but if he wins, then fair play.
You could say as IGL, he tries to make everyone comfortable. There was a point in our team where he had a lot of position changes due to finding a fifth, which is now Olly [husky], and from that point it was so-so… but now it’s pretty good.
There are a lot of people who think that you’re a talent for the future, how far do you think you can go?
[laughs] I’m trying my hardest, so I like to think that there is a chance, doesn’t matter how low the chance is, but a chance that I can make something of CS. I don’t think I’m that much of a talent, but thank you to all of those who say that.Who else on your team do you think could be a star?
I think everyone knows Mason (Vacancy), I would say he’s the star player on the team. He’ll have some insane rounds, and he’s also a very vocal player on the team as well, so he’s a very important piece to the team.
Do you think you can beat Neighbours?
Yeah, I mean, they nearly lost to Hazzernator, so at that point it’s very doable. I think we can beat any team, I think we showed it when beating Next in Line. But we’ll see, it’s a game of CS so anything can happen, lots of upsets, but we’re going strong going into the game, going strong and confident and just playing our own game.
