Esports Wales have announced their seven-man roster for the European Championship 2022: Closed Qualifier, they play their first game in group B against Spain. The Welsh squad comes into this competition as complete underdogs as they do not have any players on tier one or two sides. However, the team should be a dark horse with a buzz around young talent “Kyzer”.
Wales is in the unique situation of only having two other teams in their group as opposed to every other having four overall. Two teams from each group advance to the LAN final. This will give experience to the young core.
The coach, Stator, is excited about the opportunities for this young core. Comment:
Esports Wales are extremely excited to put out another team for the CSGO European Championships. The selection process was a lot more difficult this time around, as there are a lot of great up and coming players in Wales, with varying degrees of skill and experience, but for me it was all about finding that balance. We’ve also faced some challenges with schedules, so some players have unfortunately had to miss out this time around, but the opportunities will hopefully be back in the future, but for now this is the perfect opportunity to continue to make a name for grassroots Welsh esports, and cement ourselves within the esports scene.
All of the players have been putting in extra hours on top of their own team commitments, just to make sure they’re in good shape to play, given that there are some incredibly talented players in our group. We all appreciate that the level of competition is going to be quite high, but all maintain the same level of confidence, in that we can turn some heads and get something from this qualifier. There’s been months of preparation in the lead up to this, and I’m happy with our final roster. We want nothing more than to book our place at the event in Romania.
