It seems that Multiplay have recently announced their full line up of tournaments and prize pools for the upcoming event insomnia57 which will be heading to Birmingham in March 2016.
After an incredibly successful year for Multiplay, with prize pools being at their very highest, the big GAME buy out, and the move to the NEC, one would suspect that 2016 could be an even better year for them. They dished out £25k last year to Counter-Strike:Global Offensive alone, which in turn saw two of the biggest turn outs for a very long time, with 80 teams at insomnia55 and 54 teams at insomnia56 respectively.
However it seems that Multiplay wanted to be a lot more even in their prize pool distribution for insomnia57 as all the prize pools for the 5v5 games come in at £5k despite the disparity on team turn outs.
Here are the full prize pools for insomnia57:
- Counter-Strike:Global Offensive – £5k
- Dota2 – £5k
- League Of Legends – £5k
- Rocket League – £3k
- Street Fighter V (PS4) – £1k
We believe these are just base prize pools and could grow with sponsorships, but it is incredibly disappointing for CS:GO to have a lower prize pool than the previous two events despite considerable growth within the scene and the consistent nature of support that the scene gives to Multiplay. Especially as both League Of Legends and Dota2 just simply don’t grow either at their events.
It should be noted that the online qualifiers before LAN are a good step in the right direction, and those sign ups are still open to all teams currently, head over to the sign up page here to make sure you are in the tournament.
insomnia57 will be taking place on the weekend 25th – 28th March, and will be at the NEC in Birmingham. We of course will be there covering all aspects of the CS:GO tournament.

@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents Early days, will be shitty if it stays at 5K, hopefully an external sponsor comes along and boosts it up 🙂
RT @ukcsgo: What do people think about the £5k prize pool for the next @multiplayevents i57?

@MiGHTYMAXcsgo @ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents and the quals is definitely not a new thing, they just do it when they can be bothered
@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents underwhelming yet again considering every team is paying close to £500 in tickets to attend
@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents also get casters that have seen CSGO before the event and you might get more than 200 viewers on stream…
@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents then some company might actually want to sponsor the event
@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents fucking fantastic news
@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents disappointing prize pool, got my hopes up it might double to 10k. But I’m disappointed the pool isn’t growing

@ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents as mightymax said, it’s a joke of a prize pool considering the price of tickets. Expected from Multiplay.
@tomvertiGocs @ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents What’s the expected amount of teams?
@TobinCSGO @ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents not sure but winter is always the least popular
@tomvertiGocs @ukcsgo @MultiplayEvents Yeah it was like that in COD4 too. So looks like CPH games is the go to for UK players new then?
