This week GAMEFACE hosted its second online Cash Cup with a total prize pool of almost £200 after its last cup proved to be a great success. This gave the chance for smaller teams as well as big ones to go head to head and battle it out for a 1st (£131.25), 2nd (£37.50) and 3rd place (£18.75) prize and saw many teams, mainly from the UK, come and test their wits against one-another.
The tournament consisted of 4 groups each containing around 4 teams, who played through several B01 stages of the tournament until the top two best teams were left for a BO3 final. Despite the cup being open to the entire EU, it saw many small UK teams participate and even some big names such as FM-eSports. It’s great to see that we’re getting involved when the opportunities are given and teams are knuckling down to try compete at a semi-high level.
After many BO1’s, ups and downs, it came down to the semi-final to see who would have a shot at the top place between FM-eSports and Sensei7. This led to a dominating win by FM-eSports which ended 16-4 with Reece “Puls3” Marrs scoring highly  on de_cache and seeing his team through to the final.  With veuxstaR winning their game 16-8 on de_mirage it bottled down to a close final between veuxstaR and FM-eSports. With true fashion from veuxstaR, it finished 16 – 8 on de_cbble with a strong performance from “Jesp” of 29 kills for veuxstaR as well as “MiGHTYMAX” and “Puls3” who hit around the 20 mark respectively.
VeuxstaR, a mixed EU team, have been having great results with all their GAMEFACE tournaments and have only seen 2 losses. FM–eSports have also been doing well recently, with this being their only loss on GAMEFACE so far.
The finalised results are as follows:
1st place : veuxstaR (Jesp, quzaa, conoR-, r0m, znf) (EU Mixed)
2nd place : FM – eSports (Immi, surreal, MiGHTYMAX, Puls3, sheekey) (UK)
3rd place: Sensei7 (Eke, nonnE, PHYRN, ap.7, oogway) (Sweden)
Even with the win from an EU Mixed team it was again great to see the UK players get involved even if they didn’t quite manage to win the final. Its a great start to improve the UK scene and we will hopefully continue throughout its entirety and see some of the underdogs come out on top.
