Nightmare Express have won Multiplay’s inaugural Irish event in Killarney, Insomnia Ireland, with a 2-0 (16-8 de_cache, 16-8 de_dust2) victory over Fallen.Mix in the grand final for €500.
In December of last year, Multiplay announced the inclusion of two new additions to the popular triannual event in Birmingham. Insomnia Scotland was the first of these two tours which saw 8 teams battle out in late April this year; the second was hosted 10th – 12th June at the Killarney Convention Centre.
There was a disappointment amongst attendees when it was apparent that there would only be 4 teams entering the CS:GO tournament, causing the prize pool to be reduced to €500, with the winner pocketing the whole amount and no prize for runners up.
Among the participants were CeX’s star player Kristians “CINDER” Bogdanovs and fm-eSports’ ex-player and newly appointed coach, Philip “Whindanski” Nicholas, who represented the eventual winners Nightmare Express at the event.

The tournament format was amended to best suit the number of teams and included a best-of-one round robin group stage to determine the seedings going into the knockout stage. To the surprise of many, the ex-professional CoD4 player, Phil “PhilzR” Kearney’s Fallen.Mix were able to take the first seed after some comfortable wins over the other teams.
The knockout stages saw an exciting bout between Nightmare Express and the ever charismatic Alan “napje” O’Neill’s Boiled Eggs mix team. The teams battled out over 3 maps with the winner finally decided in double overtime on de_inferno.
In the grand final Tom “vertiGo” Rockliffe’s Nightmare Express took down Fallen.Mix 2-0 with a 16-8 victory on de_cache, followed up by a win of the same margin on de_dust2 to win the event and take home the €500 prize.
