Epic LAN often seems to be the breeding ground for LAN upsets, and the event’s eighteenth iteration appears to be no different. The event has already seen its fair share of shocks, with VATIC exiting early, Impulse Gaming White making it much further than expected and of course exceL making it past their seed.
The biggest success story of the event though is without a shadow of a doubt the Perilous side, who have dispatched third seed, fourth seed and now second seed on their route to the epicEIGHTEEN grand final.
Coming in to the event as a mix, albeit littered with talent and experience, saw the Perilous side enter with fifth seed. This would have seen them drop out of the tournament three games ago, in a match where they managed to best the hopeful Molotov’s and Marshmallows side who were themselves gunning for a grand final slot.
Their reward for taking down the third seed was not only a guaranteed slice of the £3000 prize pool, but also an opportunity for a rematch against the team that sent them into the lower bracket – uFrag. The opportunity was seized by the Perilous side who took vengeance with style, winning two maps to zero including a crushing 16 – 1 defeat to send uFrag home.
Guaranteeing themselves third place, the Perilous side hit the bar in celebration of Adam “ALIG” Robison-Witts’ birthday, seeing him parading around the event in a proud fashion with not a care in the world. It doesn’t appear that the LAN hardened veteran was greatly affected by the night’s antics, as the side have just bested the second place favourite Team Infused in a 2 – 1 series.
The best-of-five final is due to start any moment now. Watch out for ZEO’s MAG7.
