UKGT canned before end of first season

by Archive

We have all been on the edge of our seats waiting to see what would happen to UKGT, the tournament created by Ben Bagg which promised to bring esports to the awareness of the general public. Today, we got that answer – It’s been canned.

We got our answer in another short but sweet Tweet which has been the preferred method of announcements from UKGT from the start.

Sources close to UKGT say that the issues stem from a lack of commitment by the investors and so they pulled their funding from the project leaving Ben to suffer the wrath of the UK CSGO meme army. This attack has gone so far as to have a parody Twitter account created in UKGT’s honour.

There has been no word from the UKGT camp on if the prize money will be paid out to the top 4 teams as they stood at the end of the round robin stage of the event, but if the investors have pulled out we can assume all money has gone with them.

It’s a shame that what started as a promise of three seasons with live LAN finals ended before the completion of its opening season, but from the reactions of the scene to this news not many people are surprised. Ben Bagg went into this venture to redeem his image after the drama between former CAZ eSports lineup and himself over a dispute about money and products, but it seems to have backfired.
